Thank you for thinking of Headway Essex. We’re always incredibly touched and grateful to receive donations linked to someone special.
Whether you wish to fundraise in memory of a loved one who has passed, or wish to celebrate a milestone in someone’s recovery, this page will help you.
Fundraising in memory
Fundraising in memory of someone is a very special and touching way to remember them – celebrating their life, whilst helping others at the same time.
If you choose to support Headway Essex, we have made raising funds as straight-forward as possible. You can:
- Make a donation in the name of your loved one
- Hold a collection at a funeral or memorial
- Take on a fundraising challenge
- Create an online tribute fund either through Virgin Money or Just Giving
Creating an online tribute
We recommend using Virgin Money Giving’s Someone Special as a simple, sensitive way for people to come together to fundraise in memory of someone. You can create a tailored fundraising page in a few easy steps:
Step 1: Visit Virgin Money Giving’s Someone Special https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/
Step 2: You will be asked to sign-in either through an existing Facebook account or by setting up a Virgin Money Giving account using an email address.
Step 3: You will be presented with three types of fundraising pages. Select “Raise Money in Memory”
Step 4: You will be asked to provide the name of your loved one and their relationship to you.
Step 5: Choose Your Charity – Use the search function, and type ‘Headway Essex’. You can add up to four other charities if you wish. When you have selected your charity. Answer the question “Have any of your selected charities contributed to the cost of your fundraising?” The answer should be ‘no’. Then select “Create My Page”
Step 6: Personalising your page – You may wish to write a few words, although you do not have to, and upload a picture of your loved one.
Step 7: Once you are happy with your page, all you have to do is share your page. The page will contain a link for you to share on social media, or copy and paste into an e-mail.
You can encourage people to donate directly to the page or if family and friends are fundraising themselves, they can link their fundraising pages together to create a community in honour of your loved one.
Fundraise to support someone in their recovery
As a charity, there is never an expectation on carers or clients to fundraise for us. The very fact that we have been able to help those along their journey, is enough for us. But sometimes, friends and family wish to celebrate a recovery milestone by raising funds for Headway Essex, so that others can experience the same level of support they have.
You can be as creative as you like in your fundraising efforts. You can:
- Create a fundraising page for someone special (please see guide above)
- Organise a fundraising event
- Take on a challenge – we have challenges for all ages and abilities
- Make a donation
