We are very grateful to Rob Smith who has kindly provided the images for this calendar. This is Rob’s fourth calendar that he has helped us produce.
“My name is Rob and I was 23 when a brain tumour left lasting damage to my brain. Before the tumour I was a graduate and looked to become a teacher however all of that changed overnight.
The damage to my brain seriously affected my balance and therefore my mobility. My speech was also affected and I now struggle to find the right words. The biggest impact however was on my eyesight. A keen tennis fan I was now unable to watch my favourite sport as I could no longer focus on the ball. I was also told I would never be able to drive again.
Photography has helped my recovery because it gives me a purpose. I’m fortunate to have found Headway Essex, they recognised my passion for photography and that I couldn’t, not do anything. I enjoyed photographing for this calendar and if it helps Headway Essex and other people that use the service either now or in the future, then everyone’s a winner!”
