Our work at our day service hubs and within the community aims to encourage independence, whilst giving you respite.
We have two day time hubs offering day services and activities for adults living with acquired brain injury; one in Colchester (The Headway Centre) and another in Benfleet.
Although the day services operate in different ways, they both offer services and activities designed to help your loved one:
- Learn new tools for coping with acquired brain injury
- Develop insight into their injury and how it affects their life and the lives of their loved ones
- Improve communication in social situations and build confidence to get involved with community activities
- Meet other people living with ABI; to share successes, frustrations and challenges
- Increase mental health and well-being through exercise
- Where relevant, understand their opportunities for returning to work
North Essex – The Headway Centre
At The Headway Centre in Colchester, which has easy access to the A12, we provide a broad range of physical, cognitive, social and educational. These can help your loved one re-gain lost skills, develop new ones, build their confidence and promote independence. In total, there are 82 places across five days (Monday-Friday).
We take great care to work collaboratively with you, your loved one, Case Managers and other professionals involved in their rehabilitation.
South Essex Brain Injury Hub
Located in Benfleet, the South Essex Brain Injury Hub offers practical activity sessions as well as community support to help your loved one living with acquired brain injury. Those who access the hub become more confident and independent whilst regaining lost skills following their brain injury.
The referral process
To attend our day service hubs, your loved one will need to be referred by our ABI support team that can be reached on 01206 845945 or email us at abisupport@headwayessex.org.uk
A member of our support team will assist you in helping you find out what support the person you are caring for might be eligible for and which day service activities could be of benefit to them.
Places at The Headway Centre in Colchester need to be funded. This could be through Social Care, through a personal health budget or through private means.
At our South Essex hub, there is a small charge for each activity session, which, for example, could be funded through a personal independence budget, or by private means. Funded places are available for anyone on low income, or not in receipt of benefits.
