Take your first steps and start your journey through the county’s fascinating history. \nStop 2: Dedham Vale ~ 7 miles walked \nEnjoy the scenery as you make your way through Constable Country. \nStop 2: Walton – on- the – Naze ~ 21 miles walked \nTake in the sea air and imagine the waves crashing against the famous Naze cliffs as you clock up another milestone. \nStop 3: Mersea Island ~ 35 miles walked \nFamous for its seafood\, beaches and beautiful coastal scenery\, it’s a great place to pause and celebrate reaching 35 miles. \nChappel Viaduct ~ 50 miles walked \nChappel Viaduct is one of Essex’s most impressive railway landmarks\, stretching across the Colne Valley. At 50 miles\, your journey is really starting to gather pace. \nStop 4: Layer Marney Tower ~ 60 miles walked \nContinue through the Essex countryside to Layer Marney Tower\, one of the county’s most spectacular Tudor landmarks. Take a moment to admire the architecture before putting your walking shoes back on and continuing your adventure. \nStop 5: Tiptree Jam Museum ~ 63 miles walked \nA sweet stop on your Essex journey! Arrive at the Tiptree Jam Museum and discover the story behind one of Essex’s best-known food brands. You’ve reached 63 miles — perhaps it’s time for a well-deserved jam-filled treat! \nStop 6: Maldon Promenade ~ 71 miles walked \nYour journey continues to Maldon\, famous for its maritime history\, beautiful waterfront and traditional sailing barges. Enjoy the views along the promenade as you pass the 70-mile mark. \nStop 7: Hylands House ~ 82 miles walked \nSurrounded by parkland and gardens\, this is another fantastic Essex landmark to discover on your virtual journey. \nStop 8: Kelvedon Hatch Bunker ~ 92 miles walked \nHidden beneath the Essex countryside\, this fascinating Cold War site has plenty of secrets to uncover. You’ve now travelled more than 90 miles — keep going! \nStop 9: Romford Greyhound Stadium ~ 102 miles walked \nYou’ve broken through the 100-mile barrier! Your next destination is Romford Greyhound Stadium\, bringing you into the eastern edge of Greater London. \nStop 10: Tilbury Fort ~ 117 miles walked \nContinue south to Tilbury Fort\, a historic defensive stronghold overlooking the River Thames. With more than 115 miles behind you\, you’re well into the final stretch of your Essex adventure. \nStop 11: Canvey Island ~ 134 miles walked \nThe finish line is getting closer! Head towards Canvey Island\, surrounded by the waters of the Thames Estuary. Take your first steps and get ready for a whistle-stop tour of London! \nStop 2: Cutty Sark ~ 1.5 miles \nYour first landmark is the magnificent Cutty Sark in Greenwich. This historic sailing ship once carried tea around the world and is now one of London’s most famous maritime attractions. You’ve already clocked up your first 1.5 miles! \nStop 3: The Shard ~ 4.5 miles \nContinue along the Thames towards The Shard\, London’s iconic skyscraper. Standing high above the city\, it offers spectacular views across the capital. At 4.5 miles\, you’re already making great progress. \nStop 4: Tate Modern ~ 5.5 miles \nNext stop is Tate Modern\, housed in a former power station on the South Bank. Whether modern art is your thing or not\, the building itself is an impressive London landmark. \nStop 5: London Eye ~ 6 miles \nKeep walking along the South Bank until you reach the London Eye. One of the city’s most recognisable attractions\, its giant observation wheel gives visitors incredible views across London. \nStop 6: Big Ben ~ 6.5 miles \nJust a little further and you arrive at Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. At 6.5 miles\, you’re right in the heart of Westminster — and your London adventure is really gathering pace! \nStop 7: Buckingham Palace ~ 7 miles \nHead towards Buckingham Palace\, the famous London residence of the British monarch. You’ve now reached 7 miles — time to imagine the royal wave before continuing your journey! \nStop 8: Royal Albert Hall ~ 8.5 miles \nYour next destination is the magnificent Royal Albert Hall\, one of London’s most famous concert venues. From classical concerts to world-famous performances\, this iconic building has hosted generations of performers. \nStop 9: Paddington Station ~ 9.5 miles \nKeep moving towards Paddington Station\, one of London’s best-known railway stations. You may even spot a certain famous bear along the way! At 9.5 miles\, you’re almost halfway through your challenge. \nStop 10: London Zoo ~ 11 miles \nNow head north to London Zoo in Regent’s Park. Home to thousands of animals\, it’s a great place to take a virtual walk on the wild side. \nStop 11: Camden Lock ~ 11.5 miles \nJust half a mile further and you reach Camden Lock\, at the heart of one of London’s liveliest areas. Famous for its markets\, canals\, food and music\, Camden is packed with character. \nStop 12: Piccadilly Circus ~ 13.5 miles \nTime to head back towards central London and Piccadilly Circus. Famous for its bright advertising screens and the statue of Eros\, this bustling crossroads is one of the capital’s most recognisable locations. \nStop 13: Trafalgar Square ~ 14 miles \nContinue to Trafalgar Square\, one of London’s most famous public spaces. Take a moment to picture the fountains\, Nelson’s Column and the famous lions before continuing. \nStop 14: Covent Garden ~ 14.5 miles \nJust half a mile later\, you’ll arrive at Covent Garden. Famous for its market\, street performers\, shops and restaurants\, it’s a perfect place for a virtual rest stop. \nStop 15: British Museum ~ 15 miles \nYour next landmark is the British Museum\, home to an extraordinary collection spanning thousands of years of human history. You’ve now travelled 15 miles — just 5 more to go! \nStop 16: St Paul’s Cathedral ~ 16 miles \nContinue to the magnificent St Paul’s Cathedral\, with its famous dome dominating the London skyline. At 16 miles\, you’re entering the final stretch of your challenge. \nStop 17: London Bridge ~ 16.5 miles \nCross another iconic London landmark as you reach London Bridge. The River Thames is never far away on this journey\, and you’re now only 3.5 miles from the finish! \nStop 18: Tower of London ~ 17 miles \nNext stop is the historic Tower of London.
