Pitch perfect fundraising at Happy Valley Pitch and Putt

Headway Essex client, and community fundraising star, Michael Gates, is partnering with fellow Pro golf enthusiasts and owners of Coastal Golf’s Happy Valley pitch and putt course in Holland-on-Sea, to raise much needed funds for us!

On Sunday 29 July, 100% of the proceeds from the pitch and putt and tennis court hire will go directly to Headway Essex.

Coastal Golf’s Thomas Hide and Scott Rusbridge took over the lease of Happy Valley Pitch and Putt from Tendring Council this year. They hope to breathe a new lease of life into the family-friendly course.

A personal connection

Knowing Michael from a very young age, when as an aspiring junior he used to visit them at their Pro shop in Frinton, they were also keen to support him wherever they can. This includes creating a customer services role for him on a Saturday.

Having witnessed Michael’s recovery following the removal and subsequent radiotherapy treatment of a grade 4 medulloblastoma tumour, and knowing the role Headway Essex continues to play in his recovery, they decided to hold the fundraiser day on Sunday 29 July.

It is hoped the event will not only raise considerable funds but also encourage those who have never played golf to give it a go!

Commenting on what the event means to him, Michael, said:

“This means so much to me. Coastal Golf are supporting me in combining two passions of mine; golf and now fundraising. I cannot thank them enough.”

Community fundraising star

Michael has already raised nearly £8,000 since he started fundraising on behalf of Headway Essex.

Speaking on behalf of Headway Essex, we are incredibly grateful for Michael’s efforts and Coastal Golf for holding a family-friendly fundraiser on our behalf. Such community fundraising initiatives enable us to continue to be there for people living with acquired brain injury.
