Education Programme

The Community Support Service provides a brain injury awareness and prevention education programme.

This presentation is targeted at years 11, 12 and 13

Content covers topics such as:

  • Brain injuries can change people’s lives overnight
  • They can happen when we least expect them
  • Road traffic accidents cause over 40% of traumatic brain injuries
  • Accidents can happen, but there are ways of reducing their severity

The talk includes:

  • Key facts about brain injury;
  • How the brain works;
  • How people are affected by brain injury;
  • A brain injury survivor tells their tale;
  • Taking preventative measures.

If you feel this presentation could be a useful part of your Enrichment Programme or General Studies ‘A’ Level course, Please contact The Community Service Team on 01206 768797.

Recommendations:

Southend High Schools for Girls, Director of Sixth Form

“Thank you so much to your marvellous colleagues who came to SHSG and delivered their presentation. The presentation was valuable on so many levels: it gave vital information to the students regarding protection during sporting activities; it certainly enhanced their A level studies, particularly those studying psychology and biology; furthermore, it was a real eye-opener to them and instilled them with a real empathy for the volunteers and their families, which is why the students chose to hold a coffee morning in aid of Headway Essex.

The team who came to the school were lovely, delivered the talk in professional manner but were so approachable that it was pitched at just the right level for the students. I recommend it to any other school.”

Plume School, College Manager

“In December of last year, our Sixth Form College students were privileged to be given a talk by the Community Support team from Headway Essex.

The presentation included a personal experience relayed to the students by a victim of a serious road accident.

The feedback from our students was very positive and clearly gave them something to think about.

I thoroughly recommend inviting Headway into your establishment and very much look forward to them returning next year”
