A two-bedroomed bungalow, situated in the grounds of Severalls Hospital (a large Victorian psychiatric hospital), was leased from the local Health Authority.

The Headway House Day Centre had opened for two days a week, with an employed part-time co-ordinator and many volunteers recruited to help.
